We have set this charity up to raise the awareness of parental abduction, specifically we would like to offer advice and support to those who have been affected by it.
We decided to start this charity when our niece was abducted by her father and taken to Libya. We were shocked by how common parental abduction is but how little support there is for affected parents. When a child is abducted by a parent it does not just affect the other parent, it affects their grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, friends - basically whole communities. We want to offer support to these people from people who have experienced this first hand.
What happened to start the Charity?
On the 27th May 2007 Nadia was taken to a party in Manchester by her Father. At least this was story he told Nadias mother, Sarah. In reality, he was boarding a plane to head to his native country Libya.
Nadia is a 4 year old typical girlie girl who is loved by everyone who has the luck to come into contact with her.
Since her kidnap into Libya, her mother has had only one phone call with Nadia, in which Nadia stated, "I'm in Libya Mummy, I want to come home". This was said in a tearful voice, breaking the hearts of all family members.
A solicitor from Bradford has been appointed, that has helped immensely. The solicitor has now obtained a court order which states that Sarah is legal guardian of Nadia and must be returned to her care immediately.
Whilst this court order would be an excellent asset in England, it does not mean so much in Libya.
The press are now aware of the story and most papers have printed the story, some in more detail than others. Sarah has appeared on Granada Reports and GMTV.
Sarah has sent a letter to Colonel Gaddafi pleading for his assistance to help bring Nadia back home to her rightful place in the arms of her mother and presence of her family, all who adore her very much.
Fun-days have been undertaken and donations have been made to Nadia's fund, however fundraising is continuing to aid the plight to return Nadia home and to raise the awareness to parents across the country.
Nadia was due to appear in a play at her local nursery, Brooklands. She was given the lead role as the litter muncher. Due to the abduction, Nadia cannot now take part in this play, but good luck to the children at the nursery when performing. I am sure that the next Tom Cruise or Jennifer Lopez is in there.
Nadia was also due to be a flower girl at our wedding on the 29th of June. A large white wedding was organised, of which Nadia was to be the princess (flowergirl). The day before her abduction we took Nadia shopping for her dress and crown (Tiara). She was so excited to be part of "The Wedding" as she put it. As it happened all was cancelled and the wedding took place in Wigan Registry Office. Celebrations are on hold until the 'Princess' returns.
